It has been made official that 12th September is the date when Apple will announce their next generation iPhone, most likely to be known as the iPhone 5.
Apple has officially invited key media to a ‘special event’, which usually means that there will be something special introduced, and everyone expect that something to be the iPhone 5. The big question is what else the event might include, such as upgrades for the iPod line up, and could it be that Apple will also present a new 7-inc iPad Mini? It might be too early for the latter, but there is still hope for the iPod refresh (we are talking iPod Nano and iPod Touch).
So, what can we expect from the iPhone 5? First of all, it is widely believed that it will have a larger 4-inch screen. There has been plenty of unconfirmed leaked images etc. hinting at just that. The other biggy, especially for the accessories market, is the new smaller dock connector. Prepare to update your accessories people. There are also rumors that Apple will provide AirPlay Direct, allowing streaming without needing a Wi-Fi connection between devices. We might also see the iPhone 5 come with 4G LTE (Samsung might sue if so) and possibly NFC, although AirPlay Direct combined with Bluetooth 4.0 could make it unnecessary.
