Apple has released the free iPhone OS 3.1 firmware for iPhone and iPod Touch, which includes features such as Genius recommendations for apps, which has been asked for by the whole iPhone and iPod Touch community. There are other great features that makes this upgrade good as well.

Developers have over the last few days been able to play with the beta version of the upgraded iPhone OS 3.1, fixing some of the current bugs with the iPhone OS 3.0, amongst them most likely the recently revealed critical security hole. Other new features are improved video editing and voice control.

According to Apple expert and co-author of The Mac Hacker’s Handbook, Charlie Miller, the iPhone can be hacked through one of the most commonly used services on the smartphone, text messaging. This was revealed at the Syscan conference in Singapore, although it was not revealed how exactly it could be done.
