While there is still hope for the iPhone 5 redesign [image]

With “let’s talk iPhone” event quickly approaching more and more information is leaning towards the next iPhone being the iPhone 4S with a design very similar, if not the same as the current iPhone 4, to the despair of all those out there that have been dreaming about the new design iPhone 5. While there is still hope that it could happen, here is what it could look like.

It is benm.at that has designed and built a physical prototype of what the design could look like based on the information that has been available from the rumor mill.

“Based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups we created a three-dimensional computer model. This virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true prototype that you can hold in your own two hands.

The process to create this prototype is the same that’s used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough touch that we already know from the iPad.”

They have done a great job with this version, although personally i find it a bit too square, and would have rather seen it keep the longer and rounded corners of the current iPhone 4.

While there are plenty of Apple fans out there that would like to see a redesign for the iPhone 5, a recent research/infographic highlights the fact that for the large majority of us a new iPhone design is not very important compared to for example improved battery life.

Either way, we will soon find out. I will be updating with live information from the Media Event on the 4th October from around 5.30pm UK time.
