The Starbucks mobile app for iOS devices received a facelift recently to reflect the new branding of Starbucks globally, but for UK customers the latest update did not bring Starbucks card integration or some of the other mobile payment services currently available to US customers.
The updated app sees the integration of the mobile payment app into the original Starbucks app, making it easier for customers to use the app to pay for drink and food using their smartphone. This is a US only feature at the moment, alongside topping-up and making balance transfers on your Starbucks cards, and giving gifts to fellow Starbucks lovers. But it is features that we might soon see here in the UK as well.
In a reply to a question about this on Twitter, Starbucks UK MD Darcy Wilson-Rymer said that these are features to come for UK customers as well, but no date is set yet.
Recent improvements of the Starbucks UK website has made managing Starbucks cards easier, even when accessing from mobile browsers, but there is no doubt that an integration with the iPhone app would make it even easier for customers to manage their Starbucks cards as well as possibly making orders and pay using their iPhone.
I look forward to testing these features in the near future.
