Starbucks bringing iPhone app payment to UK stores

Starbucks in-store payments through iPhone app has been available for a while now in the U.S, but in January 2012 it will come to their UK stores as well as the company is reported to be tired of waiting for NFC technology to get a strong foothold.

Starbucks Mobile App payment coming to UK

It is Marketing Week that is reporting that Starbucks is launching “the high street’s first iPhone mobile app payment system after growing impatient with the rate of development of mobile NFC technology.” When this new in-app payment solution launches in the UK in January 2012 it will become possible for registered Starbucks Reward Card holders to make purchases in any Starbucks coffee shop using a one-click payment solution inside their iOS payment app.

As a Starbucks card holder living in the UK i have been waiting for this solution to come for a while now, so happy to see Starbuck bringing the feature to the UK. Hopefully this will also lead to more integrated reward solutions and easier one-click top-up solutions for adding credit to your Starbucks card/app. I’m also please to see that the in-app payment system will work at international Starbucks locations that support app payment as well, as this has not been possible with the Starbucks Reward Card, and is surely a big plus for the International Starbucks fan traveller out there.

I will be back with a review of the app and the in-store payment once it becomes available early 2012.
