Soul by Ludacris SL49 in-ear headphones [review]

in-ear headphones SL49 from Soul by Ludacris

A few weeks back I decided to buy a pair of Soul by Ludacris SL49 in-ear headphones as they had finally become available in the UK after reading a lot of positive things about the Soul by Ludacris brand, and overall they did not disappoint.

I have tried my fair share of headphones over the years, some very good and some very bad, with celebrity endorsed headphones usually falling somewhere in the middle, but at a premium price. So after reading positive things about Soul by Ludacris headphones I decided to start at the lower end of the price scale and test out the SL49 in-ear headphones.

First off, the headphones arrived in a high quality box, which is always a good sign, showing that they care about their branding and portraying a quality build. Upon opening the box and revealing the SL49 headphones themselves I was not disappointed, although i tend to prefer models that have a slightly smaller build when it comes to in-ear. In the package you also get the usual ear tip size replacements helping you to get a comfortable fit with the right level of noise reduction.

I have always struggled with getting a comfortable fit from in-ear headphones, and in there lies my only real negative comment about the Soul by Ludacris SL49. As mentioned, they felt a bit big for my ears at least, and perhaps it was the quality of the cable (heavier than many other headphones i have tried) or that I struggled getting a good fit in the ear, but they would tend to pull down and out of my ear, especially when used walking. Again, I would just stress that this is not necessarily an issue with the headphones themselves as I have had similar issues with other in-ear headphones, including the Beats by Dre Tour headphones.

Where they did not disapppoint was in the audio department. The Soul by Ludacris SL49 does have a slight bass-focus, but overall I found the sound to be well balanced, warm, and with good details. I tried to compare them with my House of Marley Redemption Song in-ear headphones, and on sound performance I would say that the SL49 inched just ahead.
