Sony is going big in the headphone market at the moment, and the latest addition is the new X-line on-ear headphones, the Sony MDR-X05, targeting the current generation of music and listeners.
According to Andrew Sivori, vice-president of the personal audio group at Sony Electronics; “When Sony teamed up with Simon Cowell, our goal was to create the best-sounding headphones in the world for today’s most popular music – allowing listeners to experience the full spectrum of audio that artists and producers hear in recording studios”.
Given the focus of these new Sony headphones, it is no surprise that they have teamed up with Simon Cowell, who has a hand in a lot of the chart toppers these days. With this link up we expect to see the new MDR-X05 featured heavily in Cowell produced shows over the coming months, both directly and indirectly.
As for the MDR-X05 headphones themselves, the specs looks promising with 40mm drivers, memory foam pad cups that swivel, tangle free cable with 3 button control and mic amongst other. Based on the images, they look both well built, comfortable, and colourful, available in silver, black on red, red on black, red on silver, black on silver, and whilte on silver. It will be interesting to see if they can live up the likes of the Sony MDR1-RBT and likes when it comes to actual audio performance.
The Sony MDR-X05 is set for US release towards end of March at $199, although at the moment it does not look like they will make it across the pond to the UK.
