The Sony RDP-XA700IP is the latest AirPlay speaker dock from Sony to hit the UK market, following in the footsteps of its bigger brother, the Sony RDP-XA900IP, which is arguably one of the better value for money AirPlay speaker docks out there at the moment. There is plenty to get excited about when it comes to the Sony RDP-XA700IP as well, as this is one of the most stylish Sony speaker docks I have come across at least, with its black mesh and brushed stainless steel elements, and the nicely integrated docking station that supports docking of iPods as well as iPhone and iPad. The overall shape of the unit also makes you feel safe that the iPad is comfortably docked, while giving you a nice viewing angle.
Whilst having the ability to dock is great, the key feature of the RDP-XA700IP is of course its AirPlay capability, allowing you to enjoy the sound from the speakers while controlling it all with your iOS device in your hands. To ensure a high quality sound Sony has added dual-passive radiator speakers and damperless magnetic fluid technology to powerful bass with less distortion. All supported by 60W of max power output from the S-Master digital amplification. I hope to be back with a hands-on review of the audio performance of the dock soon.
You can unlock further functionality by downloading the free D-Sappli Dock App, including clock interfaces and Sound equalizer. The Sony RDP-XA700IP also comes with Aux-in and stereo mini jack for connecting other audio sources.
