Sony ICF-C1IPMK2: iPod dock and clock radio

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2

The new Sony iPod dock and clock radio with the complicated name of Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 is actually not that complicated and all, and a very good alternative at an affordable price.

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2The Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 is also one of the very few iPod dock and clock radios that is certified to be both latest generation iPod and iPhone compatible, something that can be an issue with older iPod docks after the release of the new 2nd generation iPod Touch and the 4th generation iPod Nano, together with the 3G iPhone.

As with many other iPod dock and clock radios the sound quality from the speakers is decent, but you would get better sound by adding some extra to your budget and buy a proper iPod speaker dock sound system. But for use in the bedroom as a combined music station and alarm clock, the Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 delivers good quality at a very affordable price.

This clock radio is not compatible with Ipod touch second generation!
We purchased both and they do not work well together. I spoke with SONY today, only 1st generation is compatible

Are you sure that you have the correct model of the Sony dock? I have read on a few forums that people have not had any issues with compatibility with the iPod Touch 2G or the iPhone 3G, but that the earlier model from Sony there could be a compatibility issue.

  3. Damian says:

I also have purchased the MK2 and have an Ipod Touch 2G and they are NOT fully compatible.

The pause/play does not work on either the unit or the remote, therefore you have to use the Ipod itself to play/pause.

This is probably also the cause for the Alarm not working when set to play from the Ipod. The ipod light comes on but it doesn’t play.

I have spoken to Sony and they say that they cannot guarantee all functionality will work with all ipod models…

Totally agree with Damian. Same symptoms with my docking station when Iphone 3G is plugged to it. Sony needs to sort it out.
