Skype releases Qik Video Connect Plus for iPhone

Although Skype now has this one time competitor under its product umbrella, they are still releasing apps under the Qik brand, with the latest release being the Qik Video Connect Plus for iPhone.

Skype releases Qik Video Connect Plus app for iOS devicesAccording to the apps landing page on iTunes App Store, Qik Video Connect Plus is; “the highest resolution mobile video communication service in the market”. This new app lets iPhone users connect and interact with family and friends using video with added extras such as:

  • Real-time effects
  • Video editing
  • upload and share true HD videos

The Qik Video Connect Plus app from Skype gives you access to live video chat over 3G/4F/Wi-Fi with integrated video mail, and you can automatically pull contacts from your iPhone address book to see who is available to chat.

Perhaps even more interesting is the apps ability to broadcast live video to friends on social networks or through a blog, a great feature for anyone wanting to provide video content for their users. Videos can also be shared instantly on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or sent privately through email or SMS.

According to this Cnet post, the Qik Video Connect app will come in two tiers, with the free one still pending Apple approval. The plus version highlighted above costs £1.79 for UK users, but compared to the free version it includes:

  • 7 real-time effects to add a little extra flavour to the video chat
  • Easy editing tools
  • Upload and share HD videos
  • Video sync for easily adding videos shot with the app to your iPhone camera roll

The Qik Video Connect App is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch 4, and the iPad 2 as long as they are running iOS 4.1 or later.
