Bluetooth stereo headphones have come a long way since the first ones came onto the market, and these days you can get a pair that can hold their own against many mid-level wired headphones, including this best in class Sennheiser PXC 310 BT.
The Sennheiser PXC 310 BT snagged the prestigious ‘best wireless headphones award 2010′ from WhatHiFi, which is an indication that as far as bluetooth headphones go, these are among the better ones you can find on the market today. Compact and portable, with easy fold down functionality for storage, and a durable build. There is apt-x compatibility and all the main controls for music listening and talk is found on the earphone itself. Built in rechargeable battery is included which charges using a mini-USB and advised playtime is around 8-hours between charges.
The Sennheiser PXC 310 BT includes the Sennheiser NoiseGard 2.0 technology which provides up to 90 percent noise cancellation, making them a good option for commuters, and TalkThrough functionality for easy management of making and receiving calls. High-quality bluetooth 2.1 wireless transmission ensures optimized performance when paired with a Sennheiser bluetooth adapter, but should also provide the same performance for any other bluetooth 2.1 compatible device.
Based on external reviews it is advised that the sound performance is pretty good for bluetooth headphones, with crisp trebles, but perhaps a bit lacking in bass power, while vocals cut through nicely. With an apt-x adapter they apparently perform even better, thanks to the apt-x audio compression.
The Sennheiser PXC 310 BT headphones are not the cheapest headphones on the market, but when it comes to bluetooth sound, just like wired sound, you usually get what you pay for. They are currently available from amongst other the following UK retailers:
