With the new Pure Contour i1 Air they are showing that they are going all-in for Apple customers, offering up the holy Apple trinity of AirPlay streaming, lightning dock, and 30-pin docking for those still owning ‘old school’ Apple devices.
Pure has shown before that they can serve up some quality speaker solutions for iPhone and iPad owners out there, including the Pure Contour 100Di DAB and the Contour 200i with AirPlay. If you are familiar with those two Pure speakers, you will recognize the new Contour i1 Air as well, as it has the same, or very similar build.
With the new i1 Air model, Pure has looked both to the past and the present with the inclusion of a revolving dock that offers up a clip-in connector that can deal with both Lightning enabled devices, such as the new iPhone 5S and 5C, as well as the classic 30-pin connector of the iPhones and iPods of the past. The docking options covers both iPhone, iPad, and iPods. While docking might be on the way out, wireless streaming is firmly here to stay, so as the name says, the Contour i1 Air offers up AirPlay streaming as well. Add in the Pure Connect app and you have instant access to 20,000 radio stations and 200,000 on-demand programmes, as well as the Pure subscription music service. For good measure, they have thrown in a sleep timer and clock with alarm functionality as well. With it being so heavily Apple focused, it is of no surprise that they have left Bluetooth out of the picture.
The Pure Contour i1 Air is said to deliver 20W RMS power output (2 x 10W) from a set up that includes dual full range 3-inch drivers.
It should be available immediately, retailing at around £180.
