The playGo AP1 stand alone AirPlay receiver looks promising

While it is great to see that the market is improving when it comes to all-in-one AirPlay speakers and integration of AirPlay enabled AV receivers, there is always room for alternative approaches, such as playGo AP1 AirPlay receiver that has surfaced on Kickstarter.

Unlike some other solutions that have tried to do the same before by including an AirPort Express adapter, the playGo AP1 looks a bit like an Apple Time Capsule, and AirPlay is integrated in the box, so no need to buy additional adapters. By allowing you to connect your amplifier or powered speakers directly to the receiver with an optical or RCA analog connection your are set to stream your audio wireless over AirPlay.

Inside the playGo AP1 there is some interesting technology, such as an high-end 32-bit Burr-Brown PCM102 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that at least on paper is a sign that sound reproduction will be at the high end. Support for 24bit/96kHz audio files also helps ensure high-res audio files.

For fans of wireless streaming over other standards than AirPlay, the playGo AP1 is also said to support DLNA and Microsofts new Play To wireless streaming. You can read more about the playGo AP1 over on their Kickstarter page where they are still looking for funding.
