Pioneer might for many iPod and iPhone owners be a bit under the radar when it comes to selecting iPod speaker docks, but they should not be as they have delivered some strong systems, including the Pioneer XW-NAC3 dual speaker dock with bluetooth and internet radio.
Design, features & sound
Part of the Pioneer Kodo range of iPod speaker docks, the XW-NAC3 main USP is its dual docking station with shuffling music between devices, and the fact that you can dock and charge two devices at the same time, because lets face it, how many of us don’t have more than one iPod/iPhone device in the household.
The look and feel of the Pioneer XW-NAC3 does make it feel a bit more upscale than many of the other similar speaker docks in the market in my opinion, but perhaps that is a perception that is also related to the fact that we are talking about a well known hifi brand. That aside, the speaker docks feels of a quality build with the top and back in an Apple-like style in white, with the front of the XW-NAC3 available in black, white, or red finish.
An EISA award winning speaker dock, the XW-NAC3 is packed with some good features, with the dual docking and the smart shuffle functionality perhaps being what mainly separates it from the crowd. The Shuffle2 functionality means that you have different settings from shuffling what music to listen to between the two docked devices, including automatic, clever, and smooth mixes.
Want to listen to music but not docking your iPod or iPhone with the XW-NAC3, not a problem. It comes with built in bluetooth allowing you to stream your music from your iOS device directly to the speaker dock. You can also plug in an ethernet cable to then get access to internet radio if you want to.
There is even a USB connection at the top so you can plug in any USB device and play music directly from it. Combined with Aux-in and Composite Video out, that should provide and option for almost everyone.
Inside the XW-NAC3 you will find two full-range 6.6cm speakers + passive radiators with 10W+10W Power RMS Front, and advanced sound retriever technology for restoring sound quality lost through file compression. I have not had a chance to give the Pioneer XW-NAC3 a proper listen yet, but the first impression was pretty good. I will be back with full review once had a chance to listen to it properly.
