Pioneer has in the recent year been one of the audio brands that have truly embraced Apple AirPlay in their new products, including their latest Pioneer AirPlay AV receivers, and now with two new slimline wireless multi-room systems in the Pioneer X-SMC3-K and the Pioneer X-SMC5-K.
These two new Music Tap systems from Pioneer features built in Wi-Fi that supports not only Apple AirPlay streaming, but also DLNA connectivity, vTuner internet radio, and bluetooth streaming (needs an additional adapter). For the more traditional non-streaming Apple devices there is also a docking station that supports iPod and iPhone models, a USB connection, and FM/AM radio for that real old school feel. The top model Pioneer X-SMC5-K also features DVD player with HDMI out port for connecting to for example a tv. There is also composite video out for both devices.
Inside the Pioneer AirPlay Music Tap systems you will find a two-channel digital amplifier fueling the dual full range drivers with 2 x 20W RMS power output. At the front you will also find a 2.5-inch LCD display giving you up to date information about tracks, media etc.
Both systems are expected to be out in October, just like so many other Apple AirPlay speakers we have reported on. A quick search shows that the X-SMC3-K is listed on Clas Ohlson UK website with a price of £249.99. It is expected that the top model X-SMC5-K will come in around £50 higher at around £300.
