Pioneer has been delivering AirPlay enabled AV receivers for some time now along with their range of all-in-one Airplay sound systems, but with this new speaker range they are taking AirPlay streaming to the compact speaker market as well, introducing three new AirPlay/DLNA speakers.
What Pioneer has picked up on is that AirPlay might not be for everyone, so they have included DLNA capabilities into all 3 speakers as well as Apple AirPlay technology, covering all bases so to speak. The new range consists of 3 units priced between £250 and £350, all driven by a Class D amplifier. Pioneer has also fitted them all with wireless direct technology, so you can stream without using a wireless router.
The new Pioneer AirPlay speaker range consist of the splash-proof Pioneer XW-SMA3 (£300), a portable unit with rechargeable battery, featuring two 3-inch midrange drivers, a 1-inch tweeter and a central bass reflex port. A more powerful version is available in the Pioneer XW-SMA4 (£350), which adds an extra tweeter and a 4-inch subwoofer for deeper bass, and a smaller version in the entry-level Pioneer XW-SMA1 (£250).
Both the Pioneer XW-SMA4 and XW-SMA1 is expected to retail in August, with the XW-SMA3 expected out in September. In the meantime you can check out other AirPlay speakers here, including other ones from Pioneer.
