Philips Fidelio DS9010/10 speaker dock

Philips Fidelio DS9010

For those familiar with the Philips Fidelio DS9000/10 this new model will look familiar with the exception of the brushed aluminum exterior frame. Meet the John Lewis exclusive Philips Fidelio Primo DS9010/10 speaker dock.

Philips Fidelio DS9010Philips has over the last couple of years established themselves in the speaker dock market with their Fidelio range of stylish good performing iPod speaker docks, with the Fidelio DS9000/10 as the top model, giving the inconic B&W Zeppelin a run for its money. This new Fidelio DS9010/10 builds further on the last years model, but Philips have added brushed aluminum exterior to make it look even more exclusive.

Inside you will find the same pair of 4-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeters, providing a total output power of 2 x 50W from this home speaker dock. It also features the Philips Advanced Pure Digital sound processing technology, which is said to ‘produce a superior sound performance’ when compared to speaker docks that uses the more conventional analog audio processing from the analog audio output of your iPhone/iPod/iPad.

Apple iPad owners should also be glad to hear that the Fidelio DS9010/10 supports docking of your iPad as well as most iPhone and iPod models.

As for sound performance i can only hope that this new model delivers the same sound as its sibling the DS9000/10, but i will update this post further when had a chance to listen to it. Pocket-lint are reporting that they had a chance to spend some hands-on time with the new system and that it gave a good first impression.

There is also a free app to download to accompany the Fidelio DS9010/10, giving you access to additional features such as worldwide internet radio, alam functionality, weather alert system, or choose a pre-set sound setting for your music (Pop, rock, jazz, or classic).

I might stop by John Lewis this weekend to have a hands-on look at this new model, which is exclusive to John Lewis stores and johnlewis.com.

I picked up the 9010 from John Lewis just after Boxing Day and it’s phenomenal. I also have a B&W Zeppelin Air and sound is comparable. Where it has the edge is twofold, one, it has the fidelio app that can be downloaded free and gives a five band equaliser control of the unit allowing fine tuning of the sound to suit. Two, it’s significantly cheaper, even if you do as I have done and plugged an airport express station into the aux socket to give airplay.
