Philips have delivered us many stylish iPod speaker docks over the last few years, and the Philips DCB293/05 Micro HiFi System with DAB radio and iPod/iPhone dock is no exception.
Design, features & sound
As mentioned above, Philips knows how to deliver a stylish sound system for the iPod and iPhone, and with the DCB293/05 they have added some additional functionality as well in DAB/FM radio, a cd player that is hidden behind a motorized front door, and USB connection for adding other storage solutions.
With its curved front you can either have the system standing on a table/bookshelf, or you can wall-mount it if you want to. In many ways it reminds me a bit of other high-end systems that have similar design and motorized functionality. I think it looks sleek and stylish, an understated design that will look good in most settings.
The iPod/iPhone docking station is retractable so you can choose to have it not visible when you are not docking your device, and the motorized front door revealing the CD player makes the system feel more high-end in my opinion. The addition of DAB makes the system almost complete in terms of home use (wireless streaming would have been good to have).
2 x 10W output power is not likely to impress anyone, but it depends on what you plan to use the system for. For general home use it could be enough (depending on size of room of course) while you might find it lacking in power for the party scene. There are some additional sound features, including Digital Sound Control presets and Dynamic Bass Boost.
