Following the information earlier in the week about Orange and T-Mobile being ready to offer the Apple iPad at subsidized rates based on signing up to a 24 month data contract, the actual prices have been announced by Orange.
The Apple iPad at subsidized rates through Orange will be available for pre-order from the 27th November, and based on a 24 month contract which for existing customers will cost £25 a month and for new customers will be £27 a month, will cost the following:
- 16GB Apple iPad 3G – £199
- 32GB Apple iPad 3G – £249
- 64GB Apple iPad 3G – £349
Compared with current prices for the Apple iPad without any contract from most merchants in the UK, these prices are significantly lower. Of course you will have to take into consideration the cost of the 24 month contract, and if you would get a 3G data deal with the current prices on the Apple iPad (no contract required), how much would the total cost over 24 months be compared to this new offer from Orange.
As for the 24 month contract with Orange, it gives you the following for your monthly fee:
- 1GB of anytime data and an additional 1GB of quiet time data (between midnight and 4pm)
- Wi-Fi access through BT openzone with a fair usage limit capped at 3GB
We will be updating our Apple iPad price tables soon with this latest offering from Orange, which we are likely to see other networks follow up on soon as well.
Original story below
Rumour has it that Orange and T-Mobile are set to start offering subsidized Apple iPads in the UK soon on their new tariff plans, potentially shaking up the Apple iPad market by bringing some kind of price competition.
At the moment there is very little difference in prices on the Apple iPad from UK merchants, so Orange and T-Mobile announcing subsidized iPad prices if you commit to one of their price plans could potentially be a good move for consumers in the UK.
According to the reports from Engadget, we might be looking at around £200 for an Apple iPad (likely the smallest 3G version) if you commit to a 2-year data plan for your device. Whether this is a good deal for you or not would depend on the monthly cost of the price plan and how much you use the iPad over 3G connection.
While we await further information about the price plans etc from Orange and T-Mobile, here is the press release:
