Onkyo is jumping on the Lightning connector wave with a brand new mini hifi system in the Onkyo CS-255DAB, sporting a lightning dock as well as USB input to support older iDevice models, as well as any other USB enabled media device.
Given the location of the lightning enabled docking station at the top of the unit, and the fact that it is lowered into the surface, it will only support the iPhone 5, the 5th generation iPod Touch, and the 7th gen iPod Nano, given that both the iPad Mini and the iPad 4 would not fit into the associated docking space. Not that it is a big issue given the USB media playback support, as well as 3.5mm input.
Onkyo has taken both legacy and more modern audio sources into consideration in the CS-255, providing you with both a CD player, FM tuner with 30 presets, and DAB/DAB+ with 40 memory presets. There is no word at the moment as far as integration with any other online audio sources, such as Spotify or Last.fm.
The set up of the Onkyo CS-255DAB includes the central unit with a built in digital amp, and two speaker cabinets featuring 10cm cone drivers and a 20mm dome tweeter, providing a total of 30W power output (15W per channel).
You will be able to get your hands on the Onkyo CS-255DAB mini hifi at the end of July / beginning of August for £250 / $300.
