Does the new iPad really offer 4G in the UK? Not likely

Besides the Retina display of the new iPad, one of the key new features was support for 4G LTE networks, offering big improvements in download speeds over mobile connection where 4G is available. However, there are question marks over the new iPads 4G LTE compatibility with planned 4G networks in the UK.

It is The Guardian that is reporting that the 4G LTE support in the new iPad, which is catering for U.S networks primarily, operates on a different frequency range compared to the planned 4G LTE networks here in the UK. At the moment that is not a big issue, as these 4G networks are not widely available, but perhaps something to consider if you are planning to buy the new iPad because of its 4G capability at launch.

4G data in new iPad not compatible for UK market

At the moment Apple is advertising the new iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G for fast mobile data networks being available on Vodafone, O2, Orange, and Three here in the UK. However they have added a disclaimer about the 4G LTE network connections being available only when travelling to areas covered by AT&T in the U.S, and Bell, Rogers, and Telus in Canada.
