Myspace challenges itunes with new deal

By admin • Apr 6th, 2008 • Category: Music and itunes

In a move to for sure capitalize on the enormous user base of their social networking service, Myspace has gone into a partnership with 3 out of the 4 major record labels to deliver a music service online that will compete with Apple itunes.

Myspace Music will offer the user free music and video streaming supported by advertising, as well as normal paid for mp3 downloading, ringtones, concert tickets etc. The exact launch date is still a bit uncertain but when they launch they will carry music and content from the likes of Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, and Warner Music Group.

This is one of the moves that will take the Myspace platform from being a pure promotional platform to become a commercial platform leveraging the potential of their 30 million strong music interested users.

We will keep you updated on any developments and potential launch dates of this service, as well as Amazon’s international expansion of their music download service.
