Johnny Cash pushes Apple and iTunes past 10 billion songs milestone
By admin • Feb 25th, 2010 • Category: Music and itunesOver the recent weeks Apple have held the countdown towards 10 billion songs downloaded through the iTunes Store, and today they reached their target as Louie Sulcer downloaded “Guess things happen that way” by Johnny Cash.

For Sulcer from Woodstock, Georgia, the Johnny Cash song will have an even more profound meaning in the future as that particular download secured a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, although Apple could easily have given away free downloads for life without even feeling a slight tweek on the balance sheet!
The lucky winner also received a personal call from Steve Jobs himself to congratulate. This was a true milestone for Apple as well as their iTunes Store is the biggest music retailer in the world now, featuring over 12 million songs, 55,000 tv episodes, and a staggering 8,500 movies.
The Guardian in the UK also covered this story looking at the growth of the iTunes Store compared to number of iPods in the market, illustrating that although the daily downloads from the iTunes Store has seen a remarkable growth since its launch, the number of iPods have also grown at a rate that makes the download of songs slowing down.
At the same time Apple also announced a list of the all-time top 20 downloaded songs.
