I first came across the Monitor Audio AirStream S300 wireless speaker during the Gadget Show as it caught my eye on the stand as I was leaving the show, and I had not heard any information about in advance. It did however catch my interest enough to put it on my list of new wireless speakers to look out for this year.
Perhaps better know for their speakers for stereo systems and home entertainment, the AirStream S300, along with a couple of other products, is an exciting new line from the British audio manufacturer that seems more focused on catering to the current smartphone and tablet generation. The S300 is a compact AirPlay enabled wireless speaker, but it also promises to remain a high-end product that lives up to the reputation Monitor Audio has built up over the years as a company that delivers high-resolution audio. Hence the company has used the same innovative materials and technologies that has served their award winning speaker range so well up until now.
The AirStream S300 will be available in black or white finish, with its curved design crafted out of a mineral filled polymer that is acoustically ideal. The audio technical specifications includes a two-way audio system with stereo paired bass and tweeters, powered by four amplifiers, pumping out 140W of stereo power. The S300 also features a high-resolution 24-bit DAC, and an innovative system that optimizes the sound performance based on placement and room acoustics.
AirPlay streaming is the key audio source for the S300, and should you not be in a WiFi connected area of your home, it also comes with AirPlay Direct, allowing you to connect directly to the speakers own wireless network for streaming audio. Other connection options includes USB for charging and audio playback, 3.5mm aux-in, which can also enable the speaker to work as a sound bar.
The Monitor Audio AirStream S300 is expected out in August at £349 / $499. More information to follow.
