In the beginning i found the fact that i had concert tickets for Beyonce in Manchester at the same time as Manchester United was playing Barcelona in the Champions League finale slightly annoying, although i have to admit that i never considered selling the tickets to watch the game instead, and today i’m very glad i was at a great concert insted of watching a below par United getting beaten by Barcelona.
Beyonce proved that she is “the Diva” at the moment delivering a fantastic show and singing performance, delivering the goods when it counted the most, unlike the counterpart playing the Champions League finale in Rome. Perhaps it was the music the players were listening to in the bus on the way to the game that led to the dissappointing performance.
NME today revealed some of the songs on the iPod playlists of the different Manchester United stars, consistening of course of the much expected Manchester based Oasis, but also some more unexpected artists, such as Ronaldo and Nani choice of Gipsy Kings.
The long time Manchester stars Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs featured Oasis songs such as “Wonderwall” and “Supersonic”, while Rio Ferdinand went with self intitled track by Duran Duran “Rio”. Perhaps the ego got a bit too big before the game!
The funnest choice among the playlist has to go to Dutch goalie Van Der Saar with his teen weed anthem “pass the dutchie”. Good thing the finale was not played in Amsterdam.
Based on the songs revealed so far, i have to say that i am not surprised of the result in the match, as i would not call this motivational music to fire one up before such an important match. But each ones own taste i guess. I’m going back to listen to the new Laura Izibor album now – well worth a listen.
