Libratone Diva – the new woolly soundbar looking to change the soundbar market

Libratone Diva soundbar

The Danish audio manufacturer Libratone, known for their woolly wireless AirPlay speakers, have announced the October arrival of their latest product, the Libratone Diva; a soundbar that we are hoping will live up to its name when it comes to sound.

Lets face it, the soundbar market has not exactly been flooded with attractive design. We have gotten used to the standard black and boxy soundbars of the world, so it’s refreshing when Libratone is bringing their softer lines and wool finished exterior to the market. As with everything, good design is relative to each individual, but choice is always good, and I have to admit I have a soft spot for Libratone’s approach to speaker design, and if the sound of the Diva matches that of the Loop, then i’ll be a happy listener.

Behind the woolly cover you will find a set up that includes a 5-inch bass driver, dual 2-inch midrange drivers and 1-inch ribbon based tweeters with a total power output around 200W. The size of the Diva soundbar itself is 158mm (height), 988mm (width), and 100mm (depth), weighting in at 5.5kg. The Libratone Diva can also be wall mounted.

As the Libratone Diva is a soundbar it comes with a variety of connection options, including digital optical for connection to tv and both AirPlay, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX support, Spotify Connect and HTC Connect.

Besides the obvious classic woolly design from Libratone, one other differentiator to other soundbar systems that Chief acoustical engineer Jes Moesgaard is emphasising is the Diva’s ability to push sound up behind the tv “to raise and spread the sound to match the height of the image”.

The Libratone Diva will retail around £649 when it arrives in October, just in time for the xmas gift list. It comes with the default black wool cover, but included is a voucher code that will give you one free cover in a different color as well.

I hope to be back with a hands-on review of the Libratone Diva in the near future.
