It has taken a few months but finally we are starting to see more speaker producers deliver Apple AirPlay compatible systems, with Klipsch announcing their Gallery series AirPlay speakers; Studio, Forum, and Arena Soundbars at CES 2011.
Earlier we have covered iHome releasing their iHome iW1 Airplay speaker, and most recently the exciting announcement of the B&W Zeppelin Air. With Klipsch now also joining what has so far been a very exclusive little club of Apple AirPlay compatible speakers we are starting to see more choice and price ranges for consumers looking for wireless speaker systems utilizing Apple’s latest functionality.
The Klipsch Gallery AirPlay series consists of 3 speakers; the Studio and Forum which both features slots at the front for resting your iPhone / iPad / iPod, but not real docking stations, while the high-end Arena also features a 30-pin dock connector. The main reason for lack of dock connector on the two other models is that it features Apple AirPlay technology, so you should not have to dock your device to take advantage of a good music experience. The Arena model also features video output, so in theory you should be able to send videos wireless from your iOS device as well through to the speaker to for example a television (to be confirmed).
The Klipsch Gallery AirPlay series is expected to be available sometime in Q2 of this year with prices starting at $399 (Studio), $599 (Forum) and $799 (Arena). Not the cheapest speakers in the market but we look forward to testing them to give you a better idea of the quality and style.
