Klipsch has already received plenty of accolades for its Gallery G-17 AirPlay speaker and now it looks like they are ready to sweeten the deal further by bringing out custom grills for the speaker as well.
The standard grill for the Gallery G-17 is the piano-black finish, which is a fairly standard finish for so many AirPlay speakers and iPod speaker docks these days. With the magnetic removable speaker grill you can now replace it with your own custom speaker grill. All you need is to pay an extra $25, provide a 300 DPI high-res image that you want the design to be, and give them about 4 weeks to customize it for you.
“There’s no doubt this AirPlay-enabled product category is currently in its infancy,” said Paul Jacobs, CEO of Klipsch. “Since many are still unfamiliar with the benefits this wireless technology provides, we’re striving to effectively communicate them with this unique offering. By straying from all that is traditional, we hope to provide a lasting impact on the lifestyle of the G-17 Air user.”
Personally I think this is a great move by Klipsch to bring an element of customization to the G-17 as it helps set the speaker apart from the many other in the market. It is a similar move that we have also seen from Bang & Olufsen with the BeoPlay A8, although they are giving you the options to buy additional designer covers for the speaker instead of allowing yourself to customize it.
At the moment I don’t know it this feature will be available outside of the US, but I hope so.
