The Kitsound XDOCK2 is one of the first alarm docks with lightning connector that I have come across to date, thereby supporting docking of the iPhone 5 and the latest iPod Touch 5th generation as well. Given its design it would not support docking of iPad Mini or iPad 4 though.
Adaptation of the lightning dock has perhaps been a bit slow, but keeping in mind that the majority of devices out there are still probably with 30-pin connector, it is understandable. Therefore it is good to see Kitsound embracing the future with its first lightning enabled alarm dock in the XDOCK2. While you can find 30-pin alarm docks with additional USB charging port, they don’t always provide the same sort of integration with the device as physically being able to dock your device.
Kitsound have delivered what seems to be a fairly simplistic looking alarm dock in the XDOCK2. The design is understated, in either black or white finish, with the docking station sitting on one side, and the clock display on the other side. When your iPhone or iPod is docked it automatically syncs with your device time and alarm set up, allowing you to wake up to either FM radio, buzzer, or your own chosen song from your device. The snooze button gives you an extra 8 minutes before it all starts again. As for audio performance, I will be back with information once had some face time with the XDOCK2. I know it won’t have the same power as their Kitsound BoomDock, but hopefully it will have the same quality at a lower power.
