Harman Kardon owned JBL is known for delivering speaker docks for Apple products, including the Apple iPad, and their latest iPad speaker dock is now set to launch in the UK. Meet the JBL OnBeat Xtreme.
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme is built for the iPad and iPad 2, although you can also dock your iPhone or iPod with it, but looks wise it comes to its own when you dock your iPad with it. Unlike the earlier JBL OnBeat iPad speaker dock, the Xtreme packs a lot more punch, is bigger, and looks better (in my opinion). The rotating dock makes it handy for wathing movies as well with the addition of improved sound experience.
The price tag is also bigger, taking it into competition with some of well known brands as well as some AirPlay speakers out there. To warrant that price tag JBL have added bluetooth functionality to the Xtreme as well as the option to dock your iPad, making the system more versatile. There is even the addition of a built in mic, allowing you to use it with Skype, FaceTime, as well as making and receiving calls while your device is docked.
On the inside JBL has put in their best technology, including JBL ridge tweeters and JBL Atlas woofers. I had the chance to have a listen at the London International Technology Show the other weekend, and although the setting was not the best, first impression of the sound was positive. I will not be able to say whether the sound warrants the price before i get a chance to review it hands on, but first impression was promising.
JBL has even teamed up with Maroon 5 in the promotion of the OnBeat Xtreme as you can see from the image at the bottom of the article.
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme is available from amongst other the following UK retailers.
