JBL Flip – Portable, rechargeable bluetooth speaker – first impression

JBL Flip portable bluetooth speaker

Following a range of successful iPod speaker docks, JBL has recently targeted the portable bluetooth speaker market with a couple of products making a splash. One of them is the JBL Charge, and the other is the slightly smaller JBL Flip.

JBL Flip portable bluetooth speaker

Designed for portability with its small footprint and rechargeable battery that provides up to 5-hours play time, the JBL Flip enters one of the most competitive audio markets at the moment, and so far it has received a warm welcome from reviewers and the public alike, with amongst other WhatHiFi giving it 5 stars.

On the inside the JBL Flip features dual 40mm drivers and a bass port for improved low end performance. The Flip can either be listened to sitting horizontally or ‘flipped’ to a vertical position, and selected button controls are found at one end of the speaker. A built-in mic also allows you to easily use the speaker for handsfree calls, using skype, or facetime. While the JBL Flip is all about bluetooth streaming, you can also have a wired connection using the included 3.5mm aux in.

I hope to be back with my own hands-on review of the JBL Flip in the near future.
