The original Jawbone Jambox caught more than a few glares when it was first announced, and was able to combine the good first impressions with a surprisingly good audio performance for a bluetooth portable speaker. This time Jawbone is thinking bigger is better, creating a larger version in the Big Jambox.
Portable bluetooth speakers are seeing a boost of interest these days, perhaps partly driven by the new Apple Lightning Connector crating incompatibility issues with excisting speaker docks, but mostly because bluetooth is the only widely supported audio streaming solution in an increasingly varied smartphone and tablet market. In this growing market, Jawbone has carved themselves a nice niche with their cool designs and good performance. The bigger Jambox fits nicely into the mix, delivering on the consumers needs of bigger sound from bluetooth speaker.
For those of you familiar with the original, the Big Jambox does not stray from the popular design, it simply does it on a bigger scale, including the promise of bigger sound, with the unit comprising of two active drivers and two passive bass radiators. WhatHiFi for example says the Big Jambox “goes very loud, bold and lively” which is not a bad thing as many of you might be using it in social settings on the go, and not as a primary system for enjoying your audio at home. I will update with my own experience of the Big Jambox over the coming weeks. Some of the other ‘fun’ features that comes with the Big Jambox includes downloads of customizable features and updates from the MyTalk website.
