iTunes 10.1 with Apple AirPlay and iOS 4.2 support released

Apple yesterday released iTunes 10.1 which features amongst other things upgrade to support Apple AirPlay and connection with iOS 4.2 devices.

Those are the two main features of the latest version of the Apple digital media management software. So what does this upgrade mean for the general user?

Support for Apple AirPlay, the new media streaming platform that Apple launched a few months ago, that now will allow you to for example stream media directly from iTunes to for example your 2nd generation Apple TV, or to stream music to any of the coming Apple AirPlay compatible sound systems.

iOS 4.2 is the latest release of the mobile firmware platform which will bring several new features to all iOS devices, including the Apple iPad. It was expected that the new iOS 4.2 would be released to the public in early november, but rumours are that issues around the iPad Wi-Fi have put the release back towards the end of the month.

You can however upgrade to the new iOS 4.2 from today either through Apple’s software update utility or through direct download from the Apple website.
