iPod Touch turns white and comes preloaded with iOS 5 from 12th October

Despite all the rumors and wishes for a 5th generation iPod Touch 5 it quickly became clear that there would be minimal changes to the iPod Touch model this year. At the media event Apple presented a new white iPod Touch that will come preloaded with iOS 5 from the 12th October, alongside the new iPod Nano 7.

iPod Touch gets white update and price drop

It was a bit surprising that Apple did not improve some of the technical specifications of the iPod Touch to align it with the specs of the new iPhone 4S. One of the key new technical features of the iPhone 4S was the improvements in processing and graphic speeds, highlighted with some games features. Knowing that the iPod Touch has been the portable gaming solution from Apple to date, it is a bit worrying that they have not made these changes to the iPod Touch as well. Could this be a sign that the iPod Touch is on the way out, or perhaps that there will be a bigger upgrade coming next year? We will just have to wait and see.

On a positive note, Apple did announce a slight price drop on the iPod Touch, with the 8GB version starting price dropping from $229 to $199 (UK price £169). We will be updating the iPod Touch price tables over the coming week to reflect the changes/updates.
