Design, features & sound

The DS1200/05 is a true bedside speaker dock solution from Philips; small in size, alarm functionality, charging multiple devices, and generally looking good with its slightly oval pebble shape with a centrally located spring-loaded docking adapter, the secret that allows you to dock any iPod/iPhone/iPad even in their case. At the front you will find a small display telling you the time and if there are any alarms activated.

As with any decent bedside alarm clock speaker dock these days this one also features shielding technology, allowing you to dock your iPhone without worrying about flightmode (which would not make sense for this type of dock). The DS1200/05 also allows you to charge two devices at the same time, one docked in the station and the other one connected via USB.

Download the free Fidelio App from the App Store and you unlock more features, including easy browsing and displaying of music collection, use preset acoustic properties, and most importantly for a bedside unit, several options for setting alarms, including music from your device or nature sounds etc.

The Philips Fidelio DS1200/05 features Neodymium speakers for improved sound balance and bass response, and the shape of the unit is so that you get as good as possible omnidirectional sound from a unit this small. I will be back with more information on sound performance once had a chance to test the alarm speaker dock.
