Yahoo develops application for the iPhone and iPod Touch
By admin • Feb 18th, 2009 • Category: Apple iPod, Third party applicationsAt the Mobile World Congress in Spain earlier this week Yahoo announced that they are also joining the growing number of iPhone/iPod Touch applications with their own Yahoo iPhone app, following on in the footsteps of their main rival Google which has been in the iPhone App market since it first launched.
The Yahoo Mobile Application will not solely be for the iPhone and iPod Touch, but will also work on other smartphones, such as Nokia, RIM, Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
Some of the features of the new Yahoo Mobile App will be the ability to search the internet through its own engine and use Yahoo’s own map tools. In addition there will be easy access to Yahoo Mail, social network accounts, Yahoo instant messaging, as well as bringing together RSS feeds, news updates, weather, stocks, horoscopes and lots of other information that you would expect to find from a mobile version of Yahoo.
The version that is available for other smartphones will also include voice controlled search functionality, similar to what Google is offering on the iPhone, and the Opera Mini web browser.
It is expected that the Yahoo Application will be available to download sometime in late March or beginning of April.
