Scientist spells doom for 1 out of 10 iPod owners
By admin • Oct 16th, 2008 • Category: Apple iPodA group of EU scientists studying the impact of noise in the workplace on future health issues have also included the impact of mp3 players like the iPod into their studies according to CNet.
Their study on the effects of the iPod on hearing has concluded that as many as 1 out of 10 could risk becoming deaf from listening to 1 hour of music on their iPod a day for 5 years. Of course the problem is not only listening to music on your iPod too much, but listening too loud, like for example when you try and block out the noise from traffic or the tube when commuting in the morning by turning up the volume of your music instead.
Of course one should always challenge scientific conclusions that are lacking scientific evidence, which in this case might be a bit thin. However you do not want to risk loosing your music altogether, so we would recommend being careful and turn the volume a bit down.
Some of the things you can do to reduce the noise level of your music listening are; Buy a good pair of noise cancelling earphones, like the Sennheiser CX500 or the Shure SE210. The other thing you could do is invest in a good sound system with iPod docking station, so you won’t have to listen to your music through your headphones when at home. You can look at our iPod speaker dock reviews here, and read more about the likes of the B&W Zeppelin, or the Fatman iTube iPod docking station.
