It is definitely a good time to be Steve Jobs as Apple can announce that over 60 million applications have been downloaded so far from their new iPhone Application Store, and information that sales from their App Store could reach $1 billion (Source: Times Online).

60 million downloads in about a months time is an impressive number, and one that again proves what a success the concept has been so far, with sales topping $30 million so far. Apple is not set to make any significant profit from the application store at this point as they just take a percentage to cover cost, while the developers take the largest chunk of the money.

There is no sign of a slow down in the iPhone application market either as more and more companies start developing applications for the new 3g iPhone and the iPod Touch, providing us, the end user, with lots of exciting new applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With the news that the top ten developers shared about $9 million in sales.

One of the biggest success stories so far has been Sega and their Super Monkeyball which has sold over 300,000 copies at a price of $9.99.

This also comes on top of news that Apple has sneaked a “kill switch” into the iPhone OS allowing them to remove rogue applications from your iPhone should they see the need to.

It will be interesting to see what new applications will become available in the future as world leading developers continue to battle for the pockets of the iPhone users.
