The iPhone proves extremely popular as it overtakes Motorola Razr as top handset in US according to recent sales figures posted by Los Angeles Times. We are currently trying to find similar sales information for the UK as well.
As we are sure this is music to both the network and to Apple considering the overall phone market in the US actually dropped a bit compared to the same period last year.
The Motorola RAZR had experienced 12 quarters as the top selling mobile handset amongh US adults, but with the recent shift in focus towards touchscreen and functionality beyond mere phone functions, they have had to give the throne over to Apple and the 3G iPhone.
Some other research also revealed that in the US the iPhone had overtaken both Motorola and RIM Blackberry in gaining a 17.3% share in the smartphone market.
We are trying to find similar research here in the UK as well and will get back with further reports once we have more information.
With Christmas just around the corner we might see that demand for the iPhone 3G will rise even further to become one of the hottest items on the Christmas wishlists and under the tree. And if you rather would pay a bit extra for the handset up front, then you can also be glad that in the UK the iPhone is available on Pay As You Go (PAYG) with O2.
