iPhone 5 with LTE and 4-inch IGZO screen [rumors]

New information have surfaced that makes a 4-inch iPhone 5 with LTE more likely. As for when, that remains as normal a mystery until Apple is ready to tell us.

4-inch LTE iPhone 5 in 2012

It is mactokara.jp that is reporting on sources within Apple’s far eastern supply chain, claiming that Apple has made investments in Sharp’s production capability of the IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) LCD displays for delivery of thinner screens that consume less battery for future iOS devices.

The same sources also talk about Hitachi and Sony teaming up to supply Apple with 4-inch displays for what is an unnamed iOS device, but most likely would be the iPhone 5. As far as speculating in a release date however, most are just referring to sometime during 2012.

As for the many that have been waiting for the iPhone to get LTE / 4G support, Japanese publication Nikkei Business is reporting that LTE will come to both the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3 in 2012. I would not necessarily say that it is bombshell news, as this has been expected, but this time it is coming from a reputable source. 4G data networks are becoming increasingly more common, and is a key especially in the Japanese market. There are several Android smartphones able to operate on LTE/4G networks so it is seen as key for Apple to deliver the same capabilities in 2012.
