While the tech sphere has been largely disappointed with the lack of an iPhone 5 instead of looking at the new benefits of the iPhone 4S, consumers have been busy pre-ordering the new iPhone 4S in record numbers as Apple sets a new 24-hour record topping 1 million pre-orders.
The iPhone 4S which was announced last week at the media event is an upgrade of the iPhone 4, featuring dual core A5 processor, dual-core graphics, 64GB version, 8-megapixel camera, and the much talked about Siri voice Assistant. This was the first new iPhone launched during the leadership of Tim Cook and it is believed that this is largely a product lifecycle upgrade aimed at upgrading all the iPhone 3GS users out there with expiring contracts, as well as winning over some potential new customers that will be attracted to the new features.
Here is what Apple wrote in a press release.
“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”
There have been no UK pre-order numbers released yet so it is difficult to say how well the new iPhone 4S is received here. As for the success of the iPhone 4S one would of course also have to look at the numbers in relation to the overall smartphone market, and the fact that there are now more networks offering the new iPhone, including Sprint in the US.
