First Apple announced the iPhone 4S pre-order sales record topping 1 million handsets in one day, and now after 3 days of the iPhone 4S actually being available to purchase for customers around the world they are reporting 4 million sold iPhone 4S handsets, more than double the sales of the iPhone 4 when it launched.
Delivering sales figures like these is yet another proof that the lack of a new design in an iPhone 5 has not stopped the majority of the market from wanting to get their hands on the latest iPhone handset. Here is what Phil Schiller had to say about the first weekend sales figures.
“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”
The press release does not say anything about how many of these sales were to existing iPhone customers upgrading and how many are actual new customers, but in the end it does not really matter that much as it still means that 4 million customers have already bought in to their wider platform for another couple of years (most likely).
Apple could also report that over 25 million customers have already downloaded iOS 5, perhaps an explanation to some of the iOS 5 upgrading issues that many of us experienced on the day it was released. With so many people having upgraded to iOS 5 Apple can also report more than 20 million sign-ups to iCloud, their new cloud based storing and syncing service.
I’m sure figures like these will be music in the ears of shareholders and the market. If you are among the many that have not yet upgraded/purchased the iPhone 4S, we have compared some of the best iPhone 4S contract deals here.
