iPad 3 delayed, but iPhone 5 on schedule for week 2 in September

The latest news out of China indicates that the iPhone 5 is still on schedule for release in the 2nd week of September, whilst it looks like the iPad 3 will have to wait until after Thanksgiving due to component shortages.

It is China Times that is reporting these latest iPhone 5 / iPad 3 rumors who’s accuracy with predictions have been a bit hit or miss in the past, but seems to be largely in line with expectations from the market in general this time. They are known for having good connections with Apple suppliers so information coming from them carries a bit of clout.

They are reporting that the iPhone 5 will be released in the 2nd week of September with initial orders of the new model being 4 million units, with 400,000 being trial produced at the moment. Very little is yet known about the iPhone 5 as there has been no ‘misplaced’ units in any bars as of yet to hint at any changes in design, although there have been a few iPhone 5 concepts floating around. It is commonly believed that Apple might be trimming some fat around the iPhone 5, making it both lighter, thinner and faster (just like they did with the iPad 2).

As for the iPad 3, the rumors are that the device will be delayed until some time after Thanksgiving Day due to component shortage, which would cut a release date very close to the Christmas season.
