iOS 5 announced at WWDC

For the new iOS devices, including the iPhone 4S and the new iPod Touch models, iOS 5 will come pre-installed, whilst the rest of us will have to download as normal through iTunes.

To recap, key features of iOS 5 includes:

  • iMessage (free messenger service)
  • Location based reminders
  • Deeper twitter integration
  • Camera control using + volume button and access from screen lock
  • Improved Safari browser

On the same date Apple will also release iCloud, which together with iOS 5 will free iOS devices from the restraints of a computer running iTunes to stay updated and get the full use of the device.
