iAds set to invade the Apple iPad

For the many of us that have been enjoying a largely ad-free experience on the Apple iPad for close to a year now, things might be about to change as Apple’s iAd system has received an upgrade too following iOS 4.3.

First iPad iAd promoting Tron: LegacyIt was pre-christmas last year that Apple featured the first iAd on the iPad to promote the movie ‘Tron: Legacy’, a fullscreen interactive experience giving viewers further insight into the movie and the people in it. Apple themselves confirmed that it was the only iPad iAd to be featured in 2010, but it is 2011 now and time for Apple to improve their ad-based earnings.

Cnet earlier reported on the roll out of a new iPad iAd from Unilever and the NCAA, promoting the Dove Men Care product alongside the NCAA March Madness. The iAds feature legendary basketball players and coaches, such as Magic Johnson, John Thompson III and Bobby Hurley.

There are several reasons why we are likely to start seeing more iAds on the Apple iPad, including the release of the iPad 2 and the upgraded iOS 4.3 that is bringing full iAd support to the iPad platform. Apple has also updated the iAd Producer, the application used to create iAds, and they have cut the minimum iAd buy in half, all actions helping to make it easier for advertisers to test the system.

We are still waiting on seeing the first big UK based advertiser take advantage of the new advertising opportunity on the Apple iPad.
