House of Marley Chant Bluetooth portable speaker review

House of Marley Chant Bluetooth speaker portable

One can’t help but love the ethos of the House of Marley brand and the legend that is Bob Marley. One of the latest products trying to live up to that history is their Chant Bluetooth portable speaker, a wireless streaming version of the earlier released portable Chant speaker.

Keeping the low cost portable speaker glasses on, at first look the Chant speaker has a lot going for it. It is compact in size, and finished in what feels like sturdy quality material, with the wooden elements at the top and the logo nicely integrated in the black grill protecting the driver unit, surrounded by a metal finish. The whole speaker is of course nicely wrapped in the ‘Midnight’ canvas sleeve made of REWIND material, consisting of 30% hemp, 30% cotton, and 40% recycled plastic bottles. The zipped lid on the carry case also features a small pocket for storing cables, and an included carabiner allows for easy carrying. Simply clip it onto your belt, backpack, or whatever else makes it easy to bring along. The only really exposed areas of the speaker when in transit is towards the bottom, where charging ports, 3.5mm line-in, and the mic for hands free calling can be found.

To activate Bluetooth streaming on the House of Marley Chant, simply switch the Bluetooth button at the top of the speaker and sync as normal from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone or tablet. A built-in rechargeable battery ensures around 6-hours of playtime. Charging is done using a mini USB cable (included), and you can always switch to using the 3.5mm line-in connection from the headphone jack on your smartphone/tablet should you want to, and wireless streaming not being a necessity.

As far as audio performance goes, bearing in mind that this is a portable bluetooth speaker, first impression is decent. I have definitely heard better sound performance from portable speakers, but the volume is good. Since then I have taken it with me on holiday, and everyone loved the design of the speaker, how portable it was, and also the audio performance. I will still maintain that I have heard other speakers in the same class with an overall better balanced sound performance, but overall the Chant bluetooth from House of Marley hits the mark for its market as a highly portable speaker.
