High resolution iPad 3 set for Q4 launch

Taiwanese sources claim that Apple will be ready to launch the iPad 3 later this year (Q4) and that the next generation iPad will have a resolution that is 5-6 times higher than the current iPad 2.

Apple iPad 2It is Reuters that is reporting on the story from Taiwan’s Economic Daily, a story that primarily is about the imminent release of the latest Macbook Air, but also touched upon the upgraded iPad 3.

There is nothing new in the fact that the rumors are about higher resolution screen, and that the lack of Retina display for the iPad 2 could be the main reason why Apple would look to break the yearly renewal cycle and release the iPad 3 sometime later this year, with some speculations as early as September, while this latest ones have it closer to Christmas.

It has also earlier been rumored that it might be Samsung that will deliver the screens to the next generation Apple devices, bringing high resolution AMOLED screens to the iPad 3 amongst other.

In my opinion, the only reason for Apple pushing the iPad 3 release schedule into this year would be if they feel that coming Android tablets will be so well spec’d that they need to release an improved screen version before Christmas not to loose out on any pre-Christmas sale, given that the holiday season is such an important time for retailers.
