Griffin Twenty brings amplified AirPlay to your old speakers

Many of us who were born before the portable media player age might have an old fashioned HiFi system with some quality unpowered speakers sitting around collecting dust. With the Griffin Twenty we can bring some new life into those speakers.

Griffin Twenty amplified airplay

Griffin Twenty is a digital audio amplifier that combined with an Apple AirPort Express adapter can bring new amplified life into your unpowered speakers, and doing it quite minimalistic and stylishly might i add.

The Griffin Twenty features 2.1 channel sound with connections for left and right speakers, and an RCA connector for adding a subwoofer to the set up. Amplified output power is 20W per channel from Class D amp, so pretty decent for regular home use. Input connectors include S/PDIF optical and TOSLINK.

To use AirPlay streaming you have to pair the Griffin Twenty with an AirPort Express. It is designed to work with the original AirPort Express, but is also compatible with the new one as well as other digital audio sources. Once you have it set up with an AirPort Express you can start streaming from your favourite iOS device or iTunes.

The Griffin Twenty is currently available in the US for $99.99. No word as of yet when/if it will become available for the UK market.
