Geneva Labs are know for their high-end iPod speaker docks, but with their latest model in the Geneva Sounds range they are going portable, and we are talking travel portable; meet the Geneva Sound System Model XS.
The Model XS does not feature a physical docking station, but it does have that Geneva Sound cool factor as the company has designed this new portable speaker inspired by the old fashioned travel clock, maintaining that high-end feeling, just in a much more compact form. The Geneva Sound Model XS is available in three color options; red, white, and black.
According to Geneva Sound themselves, the Model XS is the first true Hi-Fi portable audio system in the world. In fact they have been able to pack a digital amplifier, stereo speakers playing mid-and high frequencies (2 x 1-inch tweeters), and a woofer (2 1/4-inch) for that extra bass sound with a response rate below 80Hz. Total power output is 12W. Add in the fact that they have packed in a digital FM tuner and bluetooth audio streaming, and you are on your way to justifying the relatively high price for a portable bluetooth speaker at around £179. For those without a bluetooth enabled portable media player, you can use the 3.5mm line-in cable that is included.
Flip it open and enjoy the Hi-Fi sound, then fold it back together and you have a sturdy, leather-like protective case for the speaker that you can just slip into your bag and take on the road. The rechargeable lithium battery ensures you get up to 5-hours of playback when fully charged.
According to their website, the Model XS will be available to order online soon. In the meantime you can check out some of the other Geneva Sound speaker docks here, including the award winning Model M. In stark contrast to the Model XS, the other new system coming soon from Geneva Sound is the mammoth Airplay enabled Model XXL, which is more like a high powered piece of furniture.
I hope to come back with a full review of the Geneva Sound Model XS in the near future.
