iPhone is the coolest brand in Britain – but is it the best gadget ever?
By admin • Sep 30th, 2009 • Category: iPhone, iPodThe Apple iPhone was voted as the coolest brand in Britain following the annual brand survey from CoolBrands looking at products that people own or desire to own, knocking Aston Martin off the top of the list for the first time in 4 years. We however ask the question - is the iPhone the best gadget ever?
The iPhone was not the only product from Apple on the list, as Apple products took 3 of the top 5 places, with the brand Apple itself taking 3rd position and the iPod moving up 36 spots to take 4th place. Aston Martin was the only brand that was able to stop Apple from taking the top 3 spots on the list, confirming the popularity of Apple products in the UK.
In fact the top 20 coolest brands list is dominated by gaming and phone brands, as in addition to Apple’s 3 listings, we also find Blackberry in position 7, Nintendo is 5th, and Sony, Playstation, and Xbox is also featured on the list. Otherwise we find that a lot of the established brands are clinging on to their top 20 positions, including Google at 8th and Ferrari at 15th.
Now the big question is; is the iPhone the best gadget ever or is it just a cool brand at the moment? We are keen to hear your thoughts on this so feel free to leave your comments with your thoughts, and reply to our latest survey.
The arguments for the iPhone 3GS being the best gadget is of course its popularity, and its adaptability through the iTunes App Store, giving it the possibility of turning into 85,000 plus different gadgets through all the available applications that can be downloaded (yes, we know that it is not 85,000 completely different apps). The iPhone is moving technology trends and consumer trends at a fast pace, creating new industries and business along its way, thereby supporting the argument that it is the best “consumer gadget” ever.
The iPhone is of course still an evolving product, and it and Apple has its flaws. Battery life is still an issue, especially if you are taking advantage of all the apps available. It is also known to have its bugs in terms of call performance. Perhaps the biggest argument at the moment against the iPhone being the best gadget ever is the apps approval process from Apple, as we over the last year have seen many potential great apps being declined because of them either being considered to compete with Apple’s own iPhone services, or being deemed inappropriate by the Apple police. There are however signs that this process is improving.
Personally I love my iPhone, but it is perhaps a bit early yet to give it the throne of best gadget ever. Let us know your thoughts.
